Program Highlights
- Accredited by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA).
- Complete your training in one year.
- Upon successful completion of each semester, you are eligible to write the Gas and Oil Burner Technician Provincial Fuel Certifications. You may write the examinations without acquiring additional workplace experience.
What you'll learn
- Fundamentals of home heating appliances that use fuel oil or natural gas.
- Experience the challenges in the service and maintenance of gas, propane, oil fired burners, furnaces, boilers and hot water heaters.
- Understand fuel delivery systems, set up and adjust combustion efficiencies, size ventilation systems and combustion air requirements.
- Enjoy a practical lab to experience troubleshooting, combustion, electrical, fabricating piping systems and other related aspects.
- The first semester prepares participants for testing and certification by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority as an Oil Burner Technician 3 (OBT 3) and a Gas Technician 3 (G3); providing eligibility on successful completion to write the Oil Burner Technician 2 (OBT 2) and Gas Technician 2 (G2) examination in the later part of the second semester.
- Optional training includes fluorocarbon refrigerant, Ozone Layer Protection Awareness Certification, Gastite and IPEX certification training.
