You know that understanding history is the key to figuring out the present and the future.
You’d love to be immersed in stories from the past while making an investment in your future. The purpose of historical inquiry is not simply to present facts but to search for an interpretation of the past. Historians attempt to find patterns and establish meaning through the rigorous study of documents and artifacts left by people of other times and other places. There is another reason to study history: it’s fun. History combines the excitement of exploration and discovery with the sense of reward born of successfully confronting and making sense of complex and challenging problems.
A four-year Bachelor of Arts with a Major in History is a rich and varied program that will take you on a voyage of discovery which spans the origins of human civilization to the present day. After completing a core course on the History of Western Thought and foundations courses in Canadian and World History, students complete senior courses in the fields of North American, European, World, Intellectual and Social and Cultural History as well as Research Methods. In the final year, students complete a capstone course on the Historians’ Craft and may choose between a major research or service learning project.
