Overview

Bow Valley College is a prestigious and well-known public, board-governed college located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is one the largest comprehensive community college in Alberta. In 1965 it was originally known as Alberta Vocational Centre. However, in 1990 Alberta Vocational Centre was renamed as Alberta Vocational College. Then in 1998 Alberta Vocational College became a Board-Governed institution and the name was officially changed to Bow Valley College. This college is a member of the Alberta Rural Development Network and Colleges/Institutes of Canada.

Since 1965, Bow Valley College has prided itself on being a student-focused community college that is immensely diverse. This diversity is reflected across the breadth and depth of our programming, which includes foundational skills development and English-language learning.

The college offers certificate and diploma programs in health care, community services, business, and creative technologies, and many of our career programs include work experience. This means you will get hands-on experience before you graduate. If you already have a degree, our post-diploma certificates give you the fast, focused skills to keep moving forward in your career.

Admission Requirements

The following requirements must be fulfilled to get admitted to Bow Valley College:

International students are considered on case-by-case basis. There can be some additional requirements, depending on the programs you are applying to.
Students are required to submit their original transcripts from their last attended academic institutions. If they are not in English, then submit the translated copies of the same along with the originals.
Should provide the certificate issued by the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) that compares educational credentials from other countries to educational standards in Canada.
Applicants must be 18 years old at the time of the beginning of the course.
You need to submit your English language proficiency test scores if you are coming from a non-English speaking country.

Please note: If you are not a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, you must obtain a valid study permit before you come to Canada.

Scholarships for International Students

Bow Valley College offers scholarship opportunities to our international students each academic term, and at each stage during their studies. The scholarship program is divided into two main categories: Entrance scholarships and In-Course Scholarships.

Entrance Scholarships:

International students are eligible to apply for scholarships in this category if:

They are starting their very first post-secondary program at Bow Valley College.
They have already completed and graduated from a first post-secondary program at Bow Valley College, and are now starting a second post-secondary program.
They have completed an English language learning or upgrading program at Bow Valley College, and are now starting a post-secondary program.

Entrance Awards

Bow Valley College offers entrance awards to assist learners who are entering a certificate or diploma program at the college for the first time. Learners will need to apply for these awards in the semester prior to their planned start date.

Alberta Blue Cross Entrance Bursary	Awarded to an Alberta student who is entering the first year of a two-year Diploma program at Bow Valley College and has had no previous Post-Secondary schooling. Recipient must have had superior academic achievement in high school and currently have financial need. Recipients of this award must not be receiving more than $3,500 in other scholarships, bursaries or awards at the time of application. (D)	$1,000	X
Paul and Gerri Charette Endowed Award	This award has been established to support a youth, who is a fulltime student at Bow Valley College. The award celebrates the student’s determination to create a better future for themselves and their family by working diligently towards their educational goals. The David & Leslie Bissett Entrance Bursary	The David & Leslie Bissett Entrance Bursary is open to new first-year Bow Valley College students who are interested in pursuing career training programs that will set them on track to enter the workforce after graduation. Recipients will be selected based on demonstrated financial need, potential for academic success and career planning. The program is open to Calgary high school students entering their first year at Bow Valley College (first preference for All In For Youth HS learners). CEA Entrance Scholarships	Bow Valley College offers International students registered in the Centre for Entertainment Arts 2-year programs a scholarship of $3,250 CAD up to $19,500 CAD. The scholarship is based on Portfolio assessment at the time of application and acceptance to the program and will be applied to tuition evenly at the start of each term in the program.
