Tue April 28, 2020     1146

Write your essay on thoughts, opinions, and experiences which are unique to you. This is one of the easiest ways to stand out from the rest of the applicants. However, you must keep in mind that you do not have to write about every extracurricular achievement and remember to be humble and authentic.

Your first paragraph should be impactful

The college essay which you write has to grab the attention of the reader. Therefore, the introductory paragraph of your college essay must be impactful, and it makes the reader want to read more. Following are some of the ways in which you can do this:

  • Start with a question
  • Make a bold statement
  • Use interesting quotes
  • Challenge the reader
  • Be yourself

Have a good understanding of the topic on which you want to write

Read the topic carefully and analyze exactly what the admission officer is asking from you, and how is the topic related to your experiences and achievements.Make sure that you cover the topic given to you comprehensively and cohesively in your essay to impress the person who will be reading it.

Try not to be boring

Trying too hard to be intellectual and formal in your essay can be a drag, as it can be off-putting to the reader. The article which you write for your college admission should be unique, and it should help you get noticed.
You also want to have an opinion in your college essay, as it will help in showcasing your personality to the reader.

Steer clear of over exaggerating

One should not lie about their achievements and awards if they cannot back them up with proof and real evidence. You might be questioned about your achievements during your admission interview. If, by any chance, the admission officer doubts the credibility of your statements, then they are more likely to scrutinize you. Therefore exaggerating your achievements is more likely to spell trouble for you.

Keep it short and sweet

Most often, universities have a minimum word count, and some of them may not have a maximum. This does not mean that you get carried away and write a long and tedious college essay. Try to give priority to quality over quantity as the admission officers are going through a lot of articles. When they see a really long piece, then it already reflects poorly on you.
So try your best to wrap up your essay in under 1000 words and do not try to use long and complicated sentences.

Crosscheck and proofread your essay

Once you are finished with your first draft, try to proofread your article and make sure that it is correct and to the point. Run the piece which you have written through a grammar and spelling checker. Also, try to get the opinion of other people as it will help in improving your essay and make it more appealing to the readers.
